| Through
this site, we hope you will learn more about us and our passion
in the pursuit of Arts Education in Singapore. As one of the co-founders
of D'RAMA Productions, it gives me great pride in introducing
our programme line-up for the 2003 season.
As
a NAC approved Arts group, D'RAMA has been actively involved in
the promotion of Arts Experience and Exposure programmes in schools.
Averaging about 200 performances every year, this has helped us
to adapt, improve and innovate new programmes for our student
audience. We pride ourselves on being able to introduce current
issues that are relevant to the young in our programmes. Examples
of this are our plays that deal with National Education, life
skills and the life sciences and many others.
The experience
elements in our various drama workshops, under the guidance of
our trained instructors, offer students the opportunity to learn
through practical based lessons, and discover the fun of creative
expression individually and as a team.
With
the growing cultural sophistication and exposure to world-class
arts programmes, we as a local group strive to promote arts education
in a manner that is non-threatening and inclusive. Without taking
up anymore cyberspace, I leave you to wander in our "dramatic"
realm and feast your sights upon the array of programmes we have
commissioned in the course of Arts Education. |

Drama,
as a tool with its potential and real benefits, could develop holistic
educational objectives and essential skills such as self-management,
learning to express and communicate, decision-making, social and cooperative
skills that will boost one's confidence and contribute to one's character
building through skill and discipline.
Drama,
as a tool would also bring important life-messages to the students in
a way that is entertaining, fun and easy to understand. To just tell
the students can be didactic. Thus, they are encouraged to explore problems
and situations that concern them through drama by acting them out. Then,
they will discuss the dramatic meaning and importance and how they feel
about them. Such 'engagement by students in the art process is judged
to be intrinsically educative and life enhancing' (David Hornbrook,
a dramatist). Thus, the message may be more lasting and impactful.
There
is more to drama than just performing on stage.
Meanwhile,
with the worrying rising trend of teenage delinquency, the Arts may
also be one of the compelling solutions to teen violence. It is certainly
not the cause.
In
recent years, scientific evidence also proves that Education, which
includes the Sciences combined with Arts, makes for a better person.
It enhances spatial intelligence.
Today,
parents, principals, teachers and Educators are beginning to acknowledge
Drama as an effective and powerful tool for artistic and self- development
through the basics of drama.
Many
schools are now taking slow but bold steps to incorporate longer-term
drama programmes during or outside curriculum time. It not only reinforces
arts education but also adds to a more holistic education for its students.
Drama
is part of the aesthetic field and therefore cannot reasonably be excluded
from a balanced education.
Drama
is a creative, purposeful fun and disciplined Art.
